The 2022 Mathematical Modeling Competition was successfully held

2023-11-17

On July 20th, our school successfully held the 2022 Mathematical Modeling Competition, attracting 217 teams to participate and ultimately submitting 112 valid papers. Through a 7-day competition, students from colleges such as Water Engineering, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Information Science, etc. won 5 first prizes, 11 second prizes, and 17 third prizes.

The school level mathematical modeling competition has provided a platform for our students to carry out innovative practical activities, which is conducive to stimulating students' innovation consciousness, hands-on practical ability, and teamwork consciousness, promoting students' consciousness, initiative, and enthusiasm for learning, and improving their comprehensive ability to solve practical problems. This competition has also continued to enhance and expand the influence of mathematical modeling in schools, which is conducive to creating a good campus learning atmosphere, promoting the construction of teaching and learning styles. It has received donations and support from our alumni, Mr. Wang Yuntu, General Manager of Shenzhen Weidakai Technology Co., Ltd., and Chairman of Dongguan Hongxing New Materials Co., Ltd.

In domestic and international competitions, our school has achieved outstanding results in mathematics subject competitions, winning 7 international special nomination awards, 23 international first prizes, 1 national first prize, and 10 national second prizes, ranking among the top agricultural colleges in China.

At the award ceremony, Xu Yan, Deputy Director of the Academic Affairs Office, encouraged students to learn how to promote learning through competitions, enhance their self-learning abilities through competitions, strive to become the new generation of students with independent abilities and broad horizons, build a smart western agriculture, and promote their own development. Zheng Lifei, Director of the Mathematical Modeling Guidance Center at the School of Science, stated that when participating in a mathematical modeling competition, it is essential to prepare well before the competition, understand the ideas, methods, algorithms, and paper writing of mathematical modeling. Team members must be familiar with a mathematical software, and the team should actively conduct simulation training to promptly identify and solve problems. Li Peizheng, a representative of the award-winning students and a 2020 student from the School of Water and Engineering, stated that the idea of mathematical modeling is to break down big problems into small ones. Mathematical modeling competitions can cultivate students' problem-solving abilities and improve their ability to write scientific papers.
